The lotto is up to 365 million. I can't figure out if MI has it or not. Its not on the lotto site, but I heard about it on Michigan radio and saw it on a Grand Rapids tv website.

nah cali is mega millions like Georgia. I plan on trying take about 2 hours out of friday or saturday and just driving up to tennessee and back... its about 45 minutes or so... an hour 15 if you drive the speed limit....

Anyway so yeah its more an excuse to drive my car in something other than bumper to bumper traffic. But I'll probably make the drive and get tickets... but thats really the excuse.

People will complain to no end about how the government is taking their money just to waste it, but then they'll turn around and play the lottery. Smile

I've never spent more than 5 bucks at any one time and I can count pretty easily the number of times I've played it.

Its fun, its a waste but all gambling is. Its a thrill and a game you know you'll never win. But its fun to dream and throw a few bucks at it when it gets over 100 mill.

also its a big difference if I waste my money...I earned it and I earned the right to not spend it thrifty or save my ass off. If the gov't takes my money and uses it to build a bridge to nowhere well... thats just shitty.

I gotta say I don't gamble. I just have heard many horror stories about how people's lives can become ruined with that much money. Some become bankrupt. That guy who got a DUI and his niece was murdered.

On the other hand, I wouldn't mind a go at it.

A huge percentage of the people who win the lottery end up bankrupt. Its funny when you think about it. But people with bad spending habbits simply don't get better by putting 50 mil in their bank. They'll still be incapable of making good money decisions.

Also yes some people have lots of problems with winning lots of money... but imho thats not exactly a bad problem to have... Your only hardwired for a certain level of success though... if you've convinced yourself that money and sucess are the realm of the evil rich you'll (even subconsciously) attempt to keep yourself from being one of them. Even in a lotto type situation.

Me? I'd give shit tons to charities and causes and work on starting a foundation or two... scholarships... basically large money sinks. Plus each year you can give a tax free gift of $11,000 a person... so all my friends, family and stuff would get that each year...

Meh but its just a fun day dream... I'm not depending on lottery for my retirement. hehe

I beg to differ. I gamble frequently and am far ahead from where I started. You can keep it in check and be good at it, trust me

The lotto is... kinda meant to help education on the surface. In real truth, very little of the money makes it to the school system and, of that money, VERY little makes it to classrooms. I, for instance, only see 130 dollars of that money per year. It amounts to my entire discretionary budget for my classroom. This year I bought a chair for my desk ($60) and some books we needed for Shakespeare and grammar, a box or two of overhead transparencies, and some pens for the white board.

I don't gamble, but only because my luck sucks ass. I walk into a casino, throw my money on the ground, bend over to get fucked, then head over to the bar for free drinks.

I'd be willing to throw in a dollar when the jackpot is lower... because I'd have a higher chance of winning.

the odds don't change based on how many people buy tickets... at least I don't think so.. even if you buy 100 tickets that doesn't improve your odds. Each play has the same odds as the next.

When it gets high enough though the chances of someone winning is greater because more people play numbers and more numbers are accounted for. That doesn't change individual odds though.

Although at the very least someone has to win eventually. Razz

It changes your odds the more you buy, thats just math at work. But in reality its too small to matter.

actually when its this large if you had the (damn I used to know this) 12-16 mill it takes to buy up every number combination you could... It might be more... I know it was a pretty high total for the "all numbers played" option.

Ooops. Sorry. I forgot that you get to choose your numbers. I did buy a lotto ticket a couple weeks ago. Didn't get ANY of the numbers.
